DENTURES

Dentures, also known as false teeth, are removable prosthetic devices designed to replace missing teeth and restore both function and appearance to the mouth. They come in two main types: complete dentures, which replace all teeth in the upper or lower jaw (or both), and partial dentures, which fill in gaps when some natural teeth remain. Modern dentures are typically made from acrylic resin, sometimes combined with metal frameworks for added strength in partial versions, and are custom-fitted by dental professionals to match the patient’s bite and facial structure as closely as possible.

While dentures have been used for centuries (with early versions crafted from materials like wood, ivory, or even human teeth), today’s options benefit from significant advancements in materials and technology, including flexible, more comfortable bases and implant-supported dentures that snap onto dental implants for superior stability. Proper care is essential—daily cleaning, soaking overnight, and regular dental check-ups help prevent irritation, infections, and bone loss in the jaw. Though adjusting to dentures can take time and may involve some initial discomfort or speech changes, they greatly improve quality of life by enabling better chewing, speaking, and confidence in social situations.
